With all the disheartening news that we hear around us, especially about deadly Ebola, the Question is: why should we be involved? Well, in the end, John Stott reminded us that “there are only two possible mindsets that would affect our attitude and subsequently our service or non-service: One is escape and the other is engage! Escape means turning our backs on the community around us and our world in rejection, washing our hands of it, and hardening our hearts against the agonizing cries for help. In contrast, “engaging” means turning our faces and hearts towards our local and global communities in compassion, getting our hands dirty, sore and worn in its service, and feeling deep within us the stirring of the love of God which cannot be contained”. I pray that we engage in whatever way we know how to eradicate ebola from our countries!!
